Gothica

Image
An icon dressed all black and sporting a plague mask, meet Gothica, a superhero the world was in desperate need of. Her appearance might make you think she’s a villain, but that’s only part of her agenda. Her superpower is her speech; she can manipulate minds to perform what she wants them to use. But her moral alignment helps all from desperate to needy. She also serves as the icon for inclusivity of every person, no matter what their interest, style, or inclination is. She believes every person is human and should be treated with respect and provided with justice no matter what. In fact, her costume aims to break stereotypes. Often showing up in courts and police stations uncalled for, she takes the case into her hands and makes a sure point to deliver justice, no matter how difficult or hidden the case is. She is a god-like detective, beating every other mastermind with her incredibly high IQ. Gothica brims with perseverance, in fact, a little too much of it, making it her...

Lockdown Live Show

Image
It was a wonderful evening. The sky blazed with the setting sun, drenching every building of the city in its saffron essence. It seemed as though the sky was hyping me along with my friends and family for the events of that evening. Tonight, I was going to be performing live for the first time from my home. Since there is a nationwide lockdown, there are no physical shows in the city, so every show I had to do was taken online. And tonight, was my first ever online live show. To say excited would be an understatement; I couldn’t stay put in one place as I was brimming with joy. I was also nervous, for I had never done this before. I had decorated my room to please the audience’s eye. Everything made a wonder-lit aesthetic. I hung fairy lights from my window and changed the tube light for a more subtle yellow light. Everyt...

The gift of the magi- reimagined

Image
It had been five years that Wendy and Sean were in a relationship. They got together in the first year of college and made it through thick and thin in all those years. Their love and commitment had stood the test of time. They were surely deep in love with each other and wanted to be together forevermore. It was also the last year they were spending in college. They would be graduating by the year-end and be starting new chapters in their lives – the career chapter. Both Wendy and Sean were ambitious and had similar interests. They were both talented in their crafts too. After college, both of them aspired to be investigative journalists. Despite their similar interests and ambitions, they supported each other and truly wanted the best for each other. Time rolled in faster than ever and soon, they had graduated and were on the job hunt. They both got their desired jobs in companies. As a few months passed by, they had both started earning a steady salary and were one of the ...

My favorite parodies from me

Image
TAKE MY BREATH AWAY                      -Mayday Parade parody You say I can run, But you follow me all through. I hate you, for all the things you made me do. Hey Jake, I can’t sleep no whole nights through, Cause I’m waiting for a way out.   And you put me inside this burning house, Doused the flames but never helped me out. I’m terrified cause all you are do doubt, And the war ain’t over now.    I’ll break you down like you did to me, alright. Shake you off so I can finally sleep at night. Or hold you down in the river. Take your breath away.   Who am I to judge? It’s written on your face...

Help in a bottle

Image
The beach of their town was the biggest and most beautiful of all the island groups and had attracted tourists since time immemorial. A lot of parties were had on the beach along with a lot of fun. A lot of sad incidents occurred too, and some strange. For one strange story, the coast guards found a funny message in a cheap liquor bottle one morning. The message was a clear cry for help but judging by the peculiarity of the SOS, the guards laughed it off as a joke and went about their daily activities ignoring the message. The next day, another message such as the previous day’s message was at the beach. The guards didn’t do much this day either. The message was found the day after that and so on for a week when the guards finally decided to look for the source of the call; to find out if the call was genuine or a joke, for it was going too far. They scoured the waters for shipwrecks or marooned tourists on the lonesome islands, but none were found. They watched the waters fo...

Drunk driving to damage

Image
A taxi driver, Aadesh Raj, has been taken into custody by the Adugodi police on 15 th July for the damage he caused to three stores on the 21 st crossroad HSR Layout. At 3:15 p.m., he drove his taxi onto the footpath and into three shops while he was under the influence of alcohol. The shops faced severe damage. No customers or shopkeepers were harmed. Two of the shops were horticultural shops owned by Rajesh Dev and Meena Perumal respectively. The third shop, owned by Ram Bal Das was a flower shop. The three shopkeepers are enraged and expect to see strict action taken against Aadesh. They expect sufficient compensation for the damages caused. “The car swerved right onto the footpath and drove into a shop and further into two more before coming to a halt”, says Shreya Nair, a bystander. “Fortunately, there weren’t many people so no one was harmed.”

Musings for my love

Image
Stars shone; moonlight dripped We wished it would last forever Storms blew us apart   Our ships collided You took the loot I gave, fled And left me to drown   Monsoon showers cried. My wrists split open and spilled All I could not say.   Your laugh, like soft mist. Your mind, poetry. My heart, so grateful.   Sweet as winter dew, Cold-like mist. You took my heart And crushed my spirit.   You came like summer Brightened my days thereafter, But left me frozen come winter.     I stayed for the warmth, But did not know I would burn When your flames took me.   Your footsteps like dew, Pleasant on winter dawn, Lost in the sunlight.

From smiles to sorrow

THE GOLDEN POUCH TO FRIENDSHIP I was seated in the rightmost of seats in class when the bell rang and the teacher walked in. No one was sitting in the row I was in. I was in the first class of my first day in college and didn’t know anybody and being the introverted person I am, I didn’t bother talking to anybody in any other rows. Pretty soon, we had to take notes so I pulled out my stationery pouch. It was a golden sequined pouch that changed to silver color when caressing the sequin and turning them, or it was also called mermaid pouch. It was a gift from my best friend from school and I had taken it with me to every college thereafter. The class got over and just as I was packing up, a few girls came over and sat next to me. “Hi! Would you mind if I played with your pouch for a bit?”, one of them asked. I gladly let them play. They looked so mesmerized by it. They asked me where I got it and I replied saying it was a gift. Soon, we were in the midst of introductions and...
